Beyond the general clothing manufacturer evaluation framework, four signals matter specifically for premium hoodie production.
Test the embroidery on your actual production fabric
Embroidery quality is fabric-dependent. A logo that looks perfect on 280gsm jersey can look distorted on 480gsm brushed fleece. Request a sample of your chosen embroidery on a swatch of your specified production fabric — not on the manufacturer's catalogue fabric. The difference reveals whether the manufacturer's machines and digitisation are calibrated for your weight tier.
Audit fully-fashioned rib capability
Premium hoodies use fully-fashioned rib cuffs and waistband — knitted to size and attached separately, rather than cut from sweatshirt fabric and seamed. The construction difference is visually subtle but tactilely significant. Ask the manufacturer to show samples of fully-fashioned rib attachment. Manufacturers using only cut-and-sewn ribbing are not premium-tier hoodie producers.
Verify garment-dye consistency if you specify dyed finishes
Garment-dye consistency at production volume is technically demanding. Ask the manufacturer about: dye tank capacity, colour-consistency tolerances (typically ΔE ≤2 across a production run), batch-to-batch variation control, and reject rate for off-tolerance pieces. A manufacturer who can't answer these specifically should not be producing your garment-dyed hoodies.
Review the QC stage for heavy-fabric defects
Heavy fabrics develop specific defect modes: needle skipping at high-stress points, thread tension variation creating puckering, rib distortion at attachment seams. A manufacturer with deep hoodie production experience inspects for these defects specifically. Ask about their inline QC protocol and the percentage of pieces typically rejected at outline inspection.
On premium hoodies.
The brands that have built lasting premium hoodie programmes are the ones that obsessed over fabric and ribbing first, branding second. A €280 hoodie isn't a €280 hoodie because of its logo — it's a €280 hoodie because the 480gsm fabric has the right brushed-inside feel, the fully-fashioned ribbing has the right tension and recovery, the drawcord moves through its channel without binding, and the hood drapes correctly on a body of any shape. Brands that get this right at the construction level can put a small embroidered logo on the chest and let the garment do the work. Brands that haven't got it right at the construction level need bigger logos, louder graphics, and more aggressive discounting to move stock.
